[UWP] Unable to add a reference to extension SDK in JS UWP app (Win10) RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I create a JS Win10 universal app project, I am unable to add references to extension SDKs installed on the machine. All that shows up in the Add References window are solution projects and shared projects. I need to reference a WinRT component installed via an extension SDK (.vsix). Note: This works fine in Win8.x JS projects and works fine in C# Win10 UWP projects. Is this a known bug with VS2015?

    Thanks, Tim

  • Hi Tim,

I have confirmed that the issue you are running into is a known limitation/problem in Visual Studio 2015 RC version. We are tracking it for the RTM release.

In the interim, you can use the approach of manually editing the project file with the winmd reference you are trying to consume in your VS 2015 UWP project (basically copy/paste the <ItemGroup>..</ItemGroup> section from the VS 2013 project file).

Please let me know how it goes.
