Migrating from one Site Collection to another RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have a client that has a detailed PWA site collection that they have created within a "Sandbox" site collection e.g. https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/sandbox/ that needs to be migrated and overwrite the site collection within the default /pwa eg.g. https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/pwa/  If there a guide or best practice on how to achieve this?  Thanks in advance

  • It depends on how the site collects were setup and if using host names and each site collection was provision with its own database. In other words, in order to do this, each site collection needs to have its own database.  I dont think it can be done with both site collections using the same databases.   Basically you should be able to de-provision the sandbox and pwa site and then provision PWA site again and providing the SANDBOX database.

Also, using project server 2010, 2013 or 2016; did you provision each site collection in a different web app.  If yes, then you are in luck and can simply reprovision pointing to sandbox database.

If using Project Online or not using host names or have both site collections in the same web app, then you may have to get a 3rd party tool like Fluent pro to migrate from one site to the other.

  • Hi Andy,

In Project Online we don't have option to migrate site collection. Having said that you have a choice to migrate manually or using third party tool such as Fluentbooks
