Visualising Spatial Data in Reporting Services - Dundas Maps (or other?) RRS feed

  • Question

  • With the acquisition of the Dundas codebase last year (and further integration of the Dundas Gauge and Dundas Chart elements, I notice), can we expect to see a Dundas Map component included in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008?
This is a great, simple tool for visualising spatial data and would be a really good addition to the increased spatial support in 2008.

If so, can you say whether it will be available included in RS or as a seperate download made available by Dundas? And will it be available in time for launch? This would be a major factor in influencing whether my client upgrades to 2008 on release.

  • Unfortunately, the Dundas Map Control won't be shipping as part of SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (source: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2784662&SiteID=1).  You can still use the existing Dundas map controls with ASP.NET or WinForms and it is pretty straightforward to link them to the SQL Server spatial types.  Hopefully it will make it in a future release.
