what is the recommended way to install non Plug and Play device RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,

I have to write installer for 3 drivers. two of them are Plug and Play type and the third - doesn't.

so I tryed using the DPinst.exe to install all of them - but at the end of installation, I cannot see the non Plug & Play device in the device manager - probably, because of it doesn't Plug & Play type.

is there another simple way to install this type of device like DPinst tool?

    Thanks

  • If you are writing an installer, then use DifxAPI's for the two plug and play devices, and use the SetupDiXXX, Registry, and CreateService calls for the legacy driver.  Take a look at the DevCon sources for guidance on the SetupDI calls and the documentation for CreateService is good for that part of the effort.
