xperf and .blg files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

is xperfview capable of opening .blg files?

I can see that the visual structure of .blg and .etl files is pretty much the same, isn't it.

I tried to open .blg file with xperfview.exe but it only shows me view called Generic Events with dropdown of ProviderIds. No more views are shown.

What data is xperfview supposed to show? If I save IIS events in etl file via logman, can I visualize that with xperfview?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Martin,

XPerf currently does not support PCW BLG files, only ETW ETL files. The file format structure is similar but not identical, and requires use of different APIs to consume and process the data. It'd be useful if you could elaborate on your scenario and how would this functionality be useful to you in practice.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Michael and Happy New Year!

I would like to use XPerfView visualization capabilities in order to show ETW log files.
Or if there is another visualization tool with similar rendering and graph overlay capabilities that would also work.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks,
    Martin
