Play MP3 with core license RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
Just want to know if my OS support MP3 files, can I test it with CEplayer.exe with OS using core license? A message box appears showing that the player is unable to initialized when I try to open it using 'run program' in platform builder.

  • Hi Ken

CEplayer (WINCEROOT\PUBLIC\DIRECTX\SDK\SAMPLES\WMP\CEPLAYER) is able to play MP3 files - provided that the appropriate Codec has been included in the OS design (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms925275.aspx).

From a licensing prospecitve - the underlying 'Windows Media Player OCX' is not part of the 'core' license. The MP3 and WMA codecs are part of 'core' (at least for Windows Embedded CE 6)

Without any further information it's hard to say why you get this error message. There are a few things you can try to find the cause of this problem:
    - do a clean rebuild of the OS (blddemo clean -q)
    - clear persistent registry, if implemented in your OS
    - build a debug version of CEplayer and debug the initialization.

The following article (http://www.pocketpcjunkies.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/wince-pb/9381/Unable-to-initialize-Player) may apply to your problem as wel.
