Connection timeout when failing over SQL cluster RRS feed

  • Question

  • In my testing enviroment i have 3 nodes set up in a 2008R2 failover cluster.

During a failover I noticed that if I execute a command in MSSMS it waits for the failover and executes the query, but if i use the SQL Server 2008 R2 Native Client it fails after 30 seconds and crashes the office application using it.

Is there a timeout that can be set in the connection string to avoid this behaivor, so that the native client waits/retries like MSSMS does?

  • After digging a little deeper and enabling ODBC Tracking I realized my odc:type = "OLEDB".

After changing this to odc:Type="ODBC" the connection waits for failover to complete and executes the query.
