Google has now enabled map styling on native map (https://googlegeodevelopers.blogspot.ca/2016/09/custom-map-styling-with-google-maps.html). We have an app that uses Forms.Maps and we built a custom renderer. Anyone tried to style a Forms.Maps map ?

Just updated forms and forms maps to the latest update. In the custom renderer of the map on android. I dont see the method to style the map in the map native object, should have a SetMapStyle method where to specify a json to the style needed.

I know that current version of Forms.Maps is based on version 29.0.0.1 which is not the lastest version of Google Play Services - Maps component. (the latest is 29.0.0.2).

The map styling native capabilities are available on the september release (2016) of the google map api. Any idea when this release be available to Forms ?

Not as I can see! Have you tried ? If at least I could know what version of the google maps API is wrapped in the xamarin component. From what I can understand, the maps styling is in the September 16 version of the google maps API.... go figure...

Nope... But we are porting this app from XF to Xamarin.Droid and Xamarin.iOS... So everything works now! I'm done with XF.

I'm currently making the iOS app, using the Google Maps https://components.xamarin.com/view/googleiosmaps in which I can call the SetMapStyle method. I've noticed that effectively, the Xamarin.GooglePlayServices.Maps component isn't quite there yet. Ironically, it's there for iOS. The current version is 29.0.0.2 which is almost 6 months old (prior to the maps SDK september update). Guess we'll have to wait for the bindings. Must explore this in order to not wait after Xamarin for these!

I guess it's the downside of having to work with a tool on top of another one. We have to wait or do the bindings ourselves!

So great Bing Maps v8! Finally something that works cross platform for our SaaS LOB xplatform Xamarin project.

Use Ryan Dixon Xam.Plugin.WebView a html page in the Assets directory of you Android project, that's it.

Bing Maps V8  with all its api's..... and samples (heat maps, directions, mobile support responsive design).. ..and now SVG styled pushpins http://bingmapsv8samples.azurewebsites.net/#SVG Pushpin Maker ..say no more.
