Exporting Data from Access 2016 table into Azure SQL Database RRS feed

  • Question

  • I don't know where this questions goes, so I'll start in this group.

    I am attempting to import a table from my Access database onto a database on my Azure server. Here are the steps I use:

    - Open Access and click on the table I want to export to Azure SQL database

    - On the External Data tab in the Export group I click on More and then ODBC database.

    - In the Export dialog I type the name I want the table to have on the sql database and click OK.

    - In the Select Data Source dailog I choose the my DSN file for the Azure Server and click OK.

    - I provide the login credentials and the table name and click OK.

    The progress bar shows that the table is being exported. Then after a lot of waiting I get an error that says:

    ODBC--call failed.

    [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]TCP Provider: The specified network name is no longer available. (#64) [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Communication link failure (#64)

    The table is created and the field names are created, but no data is imported.

    All I really want to do is create this table in my Azure database and bring over about 70,000 records.

    Any suggestions, alternate ideas, anything helpful appreciated.

  • Hi,

    I assumed that you can access to your azure database using sql manager, you can try way

    1. export your access tables into csv
    2. open your SSMS
    3. create new query
    4. use bulk import to import your data
    BULK INSERT AdventureWorks2012.Sales.SalesOrderDetail
       FROM 'f:\data.csv'
       WITH
          (
                FIELDTERMINATOR ='\t' ,
                ROWTERMINATOR = '\n'
          );

    and wait until the process done
