Windows 7 64 bit

Question

The computer is running Windows 7 64 bit and the problem is that after a while (could take hours or minutes) the desktop icons cease to work.  To get the icons going again I can reboot or log out and log on again then it works for a while again.

Can anyone suggest a fix?
