Why can´t i save the zoom level? RRS feed

  • Question

  • BING Maps seems to be quite interesting. However, it´s tiresome to always start from whole Europe, having to zoom in deeply to have my city as the default location. Why is there no (or at least no obvious) way to save the preferred zoom level and location? This renders the whole BING Maps almost useless!

  • Note this forum is for questions about the Bing Maps development API's and not the Bing Maps consumer site. Use the feedback button on that site.

  • If you always want to load Bing Maps with the same default view (of a particular city/country/whatever), why not pass the relevant lat/lng/zoom parameters in the URL and then bookmark that page?

For example, if you always wanted to start with a map of Paris (lat 48.86, long 2.34), you could load a bookmark set to: http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?cp=48.86~2.34&lvl=12

That would bring up the Bing Maps page as follows:

    Bing Map centred on Paris

I wrote a blog post on this just the other day: http://alastaira.wordpress.com/2012/06/19/url-parameters-for-the-bing-maps-website/

  • Thanks. I already tried that, but here i only get short URLs with always the same content: http://www.bing.com/maps/

Edit: Yes, i found it now. It´s not in the standard URL, but i can find it in the settings. Nice.

  • I have the same question and tried the feedback button and entered this question but there was no way to provide my email address to get a reply nor any way to find an answer.  I used to be able to go to the share icon and get a link that allowed me to go back to the same zoom levels and orientation but for the last 2-3 weeks I end up being brought to a high level (no zoom) with North up.  His Bing map lost the ability to go back to exactly what I was looking at when I retrieved the share link?
