MMC could not create the snap-in. RRS feed

  • Question

  • getting the following error out of the blue on a Windows 2008 x86 SP2 server.

MMC could not create the snap-in.  The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.

I originally thought this was just related to TS Manger, but found that I am not able to open any MMC consoles.  I've run the following command found on another post to manually remove IIS, but the issue persists.  Also noticed that many TS related services will not start.  After tracking dependencies I found that it was related to the WAS (Windows Process Activation Service) service reporting error 50.

    start /w pkgmgr /uu:IIS-WebServerRole;WAS-WindowsActivationService;WAS-ProcessModel;WAS-NetFxEnvironment;WAS-ConfigurationAPI

Any other ideas?  servermanagercmd is not functioning either.  I just get the "has stopped working" error.  Problem event name CLR20r3.

I did run the .NET 3.5 SP1 repair operation, but no change.  Any other suggestions?
