oData Web API & Excel 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I would like to know if oData web API can be consumed in Excel 2007? From my initial research, it looks like Power Query & PowerPivot are only available in Office 2010 and higher. Is this correct? Is there a way that an Exce 2007 user can consume oData?

    Thank you.

  • It was the second answer "I know this comment is late but you can write a COM accessible .NET wrapper for Querying your OData services" that caught my attention.  It seems  that while there might not be something like PowerQuery & PowerPivot available you could potentially write something custom.

  • Hi,

As far as I know, OData is not supported in Excel 2007. It is support from Excel 2010 though SQL Sever SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel.

As a workaround, we write a COM visible assembly which warp the OData query as IoTGirl suggested.

  • Looks like they were trying to get interest but I don't think it was ever created:

  • Thank you for the reply. I saw this article a while ago and looks like the link stated in that article (on consuming oData in Excel 2007) no longer exists. I couldn't find any articles (with resolution) about this subject therefore my assumption is that, it is not doable.
