Integration via command line RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to use TFS (work items, version control) without Visual Studio?

For instance, if I use another language, like Progress, can I use TFS?

Currently we are using Subversion and we created all the tools we need to commit, update, using the Subversion's command line tool.

So, TFS supports command lines? If so, where can I get the documentation for it?

  • Yes, but you will need to install Team Explorer on Windows OS or Team Explorer Everywhere on non windows OS, and if you want to just use it with the Windows shell integration, you will need to setup Team Foundation Power Tool, which has a tool that provides integration with Windows Explorer and the common file dialogs. With this integration, you can perform many source control operations without having to run Visual Studio or a Team Foundation command-line tool.

Team Explorer can be found on the TFS media (DVD) or ISO

The good news are that TFS Express 11 Beta is for free for 5 users, so you can really enjoy using it.
