Background sounds not being suspended with Metro app? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Last night I finished Zero Gravity (level 24) got the blank background but still heard its sound and switched to a different Metro app to stop the noise.   This morning I wanted to listen to a Build video and found that there was no sound.  There was also no sound via Sounds Test (e.g. Win-W Change System Sounds).   Investigating this using Volume Mixer (sndvol.exe -- does not show up as an "app" unless typed that way) I discovered that  Zero Gravity was still listed there.  Killed ZG (though it was supposedly "suspended") and sound resumed.

I now realize I should have thought to investigate that suspect app more thoroughly before killing it--e.g. checked to see if its Memory requirements were increasing unexpectedly for one thing.

  • Zero Gravity uses the same APIs as an App that would use "Background Music App" (think Zune or another app, where you actually want the music to continue if you "leave" the app.).

I guess, it might be just a bug in the Zero Gravity app (they are all "demo apps" afterall).
