Clean fault message on WCF service RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to add useful fault messages to a Biztalk WCF service (currently using WCF-BasicHTTP on the receive location). I am catching exceptions in the orchestration, and I want to send a fault mesage back to the service that describes the exception that occurred. I am currently sending a message of type System.String to the Fault action of the Port in the orchestration.

Here is the problem I am having: If I turn "Include exception detail in faults" on, my fault message appears in <faultstring>, but "<?xml version="1.0"?><string>" get added to the front, and all of the detail is included which I don't want. If I turn the "include detail" option off, the fault message is clean, but is always a generic message.

How do I return a clean, customizable fault response - just a <faultcode> and <faultstring> that I can define?
