Cannot able to access the sharepoint site in another system RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

i have created one Team site for my organization. But that team site can be accessed only in the sharepoint server system.
if i typed the URL http://fileserver:15485/sites/sample/default.aspx in my system, the corresponding page is not loaded.

  • hi,

Thanks for your reply. i solved the problem..

The server is a workgroup machine(Windows server 2008). so it restricts the ports to be  accessed in another system.

So in firewall settings, Click Allow a program through windows firewall option

Then click ADD Port Button, in that screen you have to specify that Port number...

    Then click ok.

Then that particular URL which contains that port number is accessed by all system

  • Is http://fileserver:15485 accessible from your system.

I.e. is DNS aware of this address ?

  • What does that mean?  What do you mean by "in my system"?  SharePoint doesn't need to be in a "system."  It's a website and either you can access that website or not.  I'm not sure what you mean by fileserver...

Hmm, I think you may be referring to your personal computer as a "system" and the SharePoint server as a "system."  If you created and accessed your site by logging directly on to the SharePoint server and can only reach the site while doing that, then SharePoint has not been configured properly for being available across your Intranet.  DNS has to be aware of the URL you are putting in your browser, which is what Mike was talking about.
