MPEG-2 Video Extension RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is the "MPEG-2 Video Extension", available on the Microsoft store, which I believe is just a updated "Microsoft DTV/DVD Video Decoder" filter,  supposed to work with non MS apps? Installing it allows Windows Media Player to play MPEG-2 files, but I get an error VFW_E_CANNOT_CONNECT when trying to connect the "Microsoft DTV/DVD Video Decoder" to a MPEG-2 source filter.

Answers

    • Store extension is not related to DirectShow at all; your DirectShow code never talks to this extension
    • Store extension contains Media Foundation decoder which is separated from similar DirectShow implementation
    • Decoder from store extension can work with non-MS applications, but via Media Foundation only
