Editing the content of a Web Part RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've recently added a Contact Form web part onto my SharePoint Page.
This works really well, which i'm very happy with.

But I want to edit / add fields on the contact form like so:

Is there source code I can edit to change these fields?
    Or is there another way?

    Greetings,

  • Hi,

How did you deploy that web part ?

Using any codes or using a third party solution ?

How did you create the form ?

  • How did you deploy that web part?

I deployed it by using the following commands:

    Using stsadm:
    stsadm –o addsolution –name wspsolution.wsp

    Then by using Powershell:
    Add-SPSolution c:\code\SharePointProject2\bin\debug\wspsoluion.wsp

Then on the site collection navigation to:
Site Actions> Site Settings> Site Collection Features

Then simply clicking "activate" at the just deployed solution.

Using any codes or using a third party solution?
Yes, the only 3rd part solution i'm using is this .wsp file.

How did you create the form?
I did not create it myself.

  • ok,if this is 3rd party solution and you don't have codes then you can't edit / modify fields.

Alternate option is to create an InfoPath form with your required fields.

  • I've been trying to use InfoPath, but I cant quite get it actived on my Portal.
Can you give me some guidence on how to?

Then again, I when I get InfoPath actived, I wouldn't know how to make a contact form.

Thanks for your feedback so far, its highly appreciated.

  • If you have a solution that already works for you and you don't have access to the source code, there's no need to spend additional money or reinvent the wheel.

You can use jQuery to format the webpart after it is rendered.  What does the html look like for the rendered web part and I'll dig up some example jQuery to modify it?

With jQuery you can replace text and apply styles... the possibilities are numerous. Unless you have the funds or the time, I suggest at least looking into it.

  • Depending on your budget, the easiest thing for you is to get your exact specifications and contact the original 3rd party developer and have them customize for you.

But the cheaper way to go would be to get a different web part that is designed to give you the flexibility for customization of fields, CSS, etc -- such as this:
