Null and Multi-Value DDL RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can't seem to figure this one out.  My basic report is as follows:

I put data from an .xls extract and report on it

Each record has a property called On_Branch

On_Branch can be null or have a value

For example, a possible report would want to show all records that are not on a branch (Null value) as well as everything that is on branch 3.6 and 3.7.

As you know, VS won't let you select "Allow Null Value" and "Multi-Value." I am working form within VS using the Report Parameters and filtering the DS.

    How do I fix this?!

    Many Thanks,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett,

I can't tell you that this is the only resolution, but in your situation I create a value called "Any" and allow it to be selectable.  If it is included, then I know I don't want that particular column to participate in the filter.

You can see an example of syntax in code discussed here http://spacefold.com/lisa/post/Writing-Dynamic-SQL-in-and-for-RDLs.aspx ... basically I use a couple of rules:

    * -- if the multi-select is an integer value I use the label "Any" with a value of some impossible value such as -2.

    * -- if the multi-select is query-driven, I include a UNION in the query with my "Any" label and value.

    HTH,
