    When trying to change the Workflow I receive

    Server Error in '/' Application.

    Runtime Error

    Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

    Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
    <!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

    <configuration>
        <system.web>
            <customErrors mode="Off"/>
        </system.web>
    </configuration>

    Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
    <!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

    <configuration>
        <system.web>
            <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
        </system.web>
    </configuration>

    What I've tried so far:

    Reboot - Temporary fix for a few days

    Restart WWW Publishing Service - Temp Fix for a few days

    Reinstalled ASP.NET installation: For 32 bit: "%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe" -i For 64 bit: "%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe" -i To no avail.

    When I look at logs in Sharepoint\Logs\<sharepointservername>-<date>.log there's nothing conclusive.

    When I look at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS the only recent logs are .usage and are unread able.

  • My bad.  I was referring to Project Application Service.  Please stop this service from CA and start it again.  The error in event log is showing that a project server event receiver has failed.

    Once you restart the service and still see the issue then I suggest you remove the Project Web Access Site and re-create it using same databases.

  • When you click on a "Project" Is it Project Server PWA site.  If it is then I suggest you stop and start the Project Web Service from central Admin.  I have seen this issue gets fix automatically.

  • Jerry,

    I'm in the Central Administration > Services on Server and I don't see "Project Web Service"  I do see "Project Application Service.

    We're getting this same error when a user tries to change a Workflow.

    In the interim I've been restarting W3 Publishing Service. Although the issue still seems to come back.

    Here's an error in application log that seem to be corresponding to the issue.

  • No worries, thanks for the clarification!  I will restart the service and see if that resolves the issue.  If not I'll look into recreating the PWA site.
