Getting jQuery to work with Windows 8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I do a lot of work with Windows 8, and moreover, with jQuery as well.

Initially, jQuery did not work with Windows 8 at all, due to Microsoft's high security within Windows 8 apps. The 2.0 update of jQuery resolved many of those issues, but not all of them.

Specifically, this applies to using functions like append, appendChild, and innerHtml, as Windows 8 doesn't like to have HTML dynamically injected with the believe that it can be intercepted and malicious code can be placed in there.

To get around those issues I wrote a tutorial, which hopefully will help others. I've also included an updated version of jQuery 2.0.2 which has many of the append functions wrapped with MSApp.execUnsafeLocalFunction(),  which then allows jQuery to work with all Windows 8 HTML apps.

    Enjoy!
