Best way to use/convert existing Corel Draw .cdr files? RRS feed

  • Question

  • (I just posted this in the discussion group, but I also wanted to give the shiny new forum a try, I hope this is OK with everyone)

We'd like to start using Expression Design as our primary vector graphics
software, but we have a number of CDR files that we'd like to build
    upon/re-use in Expression.
Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to do that?
We are currently using Corel 13, and it seems that none of the formats it
can export works with Expression (the .ai that Corel creates is imported as
an empty layer, this seems to be the only vector format both can understand).
Copy+paste of Corel objects results in a low-res image pasted in Expression,
even if it's just a simple rectangle.
And no, we do not have AI to do the conversion with...
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Andre

  • Hi !

I have Corel DRAW Graphics Suite-X3 , Corel Draw X3 can write .ai file.
    - I tryed export compatibility level "Illustrator 7".

Expression 3.3 can read .ai file, and can write .xpr(older Expression format) file.

    - please refer http://www.microsoft.com/expression/expression-design/CreatureHouse.aspx?key=download

Expression Design can read .xpr file.
    - It is undescribed facility of file-read menu dialog.

You may be found by old expression in a conversion path ?

  • We should see better support for Illustrator files in the next release of Design. It was a popular request.

  • Kinda surprised me but I've been using Corel PSP Photo X2 to work with existing CDR and AI files for Expression.
Thought it'd be worth mentioning anyway...

for the moment I can import the ai files I did in school we use cs3 (only simple drawings without effects)(some import far from the artboard so I have to move round to find them)
