VS 2015 Issues with ctrl F5

    Question

  • I would like to preface this by saying I am new to coding. The issue I am having is when I open my C++ source files where I have been working on tutorials for basic win32 console applications, the CTRL F5 is non responsive and will not run the program. However, if I start a brand new file it will run the program. I'm thinking maybe I saved it wrong? Any help you guys could offer would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Vic

  • Hi VicR93,

Based on your description, your problem more related to the project. Please create a new Win32 Console application without any custom code then press Ctrl + F5 to check whether it also has this problem.

If new project works fine, please provide some code snippet to help us reproduce your problem and then figure out what's wrong with your code.

If new project also has this issue, please press F5 to check whether it also no responsive. Then please try with following steps to troubleshoot this issue.

    1. Open Visual Studio 2015 as Administrator.
    2.  Run Visual Studio 2015 in safe mode with "Devenv.exe /SafeMode" command to prevents all third-party VSPackages from loading when Visual Studio starts, thus ensuring stable execution.
    3. Reset all settings through Tools -> Options -> Import and Export settings -> Reset all settings.
    4. Try Repair Visual Studio 2015 in Control Panel -> Visual Studio 2015 -> Change -> Repair.

    Best Regards,
