SpreadtsheetML Document Generation via XSL-FO? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good afternoon,

has anyone successfully (and as far as possible.. completely) created a xsl-fo stylesheet for SpreadsheetML files? WordprocessingML has gotten some love in this direction, but for some reason no-one seemed to particularly care about the spreadsheet part... which is exactly what I'd need now.

Basically we have documents that reference external .xls files and since the documents themselves are basically custom .xml's and mangeled by a xsl-fo transformation and saved as .pdfs, I am currently looking for a smooth way to include these Excel files into the document generation process as 'natively' as possible. There are ways to create pictures out of excel files etc etc, but this isn't really what I want (data not being searchable anymore afterwards being one of the reasons), so I was wondering whether I could transform the Excel file into proper SpreadsheetML documents and format these aswell, but looking at the Specs kinda made me back away again real quick.

Maybe someone knows a company or product that has gone this way already and might be able to help me here.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

    Best regards,
