Changing keys where both System and Administrators only have R rights (Windows 7) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to change a registry value where only TrustedInstaller had full control.
    I do know how to take ownership manually, and change the settings, but i do want to do so during an unattended install. (using SCCM)
    Setting security (or the desired value) using GPO's does not work, because this is done using System rights, and system does nog have enough rights to do so.

    The value i would like to change is LocalizedString, under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

    (i would like to show the computername at the startmenu, instead of 'computer', for remote support purposes)

  • This response is a year too late... but... It's impossible. It would defeat the purpose of Microsoft making things harder for network administrators.
