Debugging device.exe RRS feed

  • Question

  • Iam trying top find out why a compact flash card inserted is unknown, the crc of the tuples is correct, i have multiple cards some work and some don't, the drivers are the same, and these work. All cards can be read happily on win 7 laptops, but not recognised in a ce device.

It would be nice if device.exe actually told you the problem rather than "unrecognised", anyone know how to get it to do that !

or turn on debug messages just for this section.

I cannot change the CE, it's a commercial product.

  • If you are not able to change the WinCE images on your product, then it is difficult to debug.

If you are able to change the WinCE images, then you can build the KITL debug version of OS image.Enabling the debug zones of atapi.dll from "Target -->CE Debug Zones" dialog  while loading your image.

  • you can't see any more information without enabling the Debug messages on the corresponding drivers. if you have the BSP for your device, you can enable the debug messges through many ways.

Also see the bellow article, your issue may be related to this.

  • be careful that apparently the CF copuld look the same but maybe they're not: maybe the internal flash controller is different: are the part number code exactly the same?
