How to stop Excel from renaming my custom ribbon buttons by itself? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created a custom ribbon and rename the buttons like I needed them. Excel modifies the names I assigned to the buttons every time. How can I stop this from happening?

    Every time I reduce the size of the name, it brings it back to the original name some time later.

  • Don't know how you are defining the custom ribbon but I use XML and never have a problem with custom ribbons.  Here is an example:

    <customUI xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2009/07/customui">
    <ribbon>
      <tabs>
        <tab idMso="TabAddIns">
          <group id="TripGroup" label="Trip">
            <menu id="TripMenu" label="Excel Programs">
    	  <button id="UtilitiesOnBt" label="Utilities"
    	    image="qat_util" screentip="Show Utilities" onAction="UtilitiesOn"/>
    	  <button id="PlotOnBt" label="Plot Form"
                image="qat_plot" screentip="Show Plot Form" onAction="PlotOn"/>
    	  <button id="TempOnBt" label="Template Form"
    	    image="qat_temp" screentip="Show Template Form" onAction="TemplateOn"/>
    	  <button id="AboutOnBt" label="About"
    	    screentip="Show About" onAction="AboutOn"/>
    	</menu>
          </group>
        </tab>
      </tabs>
    </ribbon>
    </customUI>
