Issues in new version of Bing Map SDK for Win 8 Modern apps RRS feed

  • Question

  • I downloaded the latest version of Bing Map SDK, and after that I started getting "unhandled win32 exception in TestApp.exe [9328], and showing the VS JIT debugger. I was using the previous version, and never faced the issue. I tried in existing app, and created new app to verify.

    The xaml code remained unchanged as:

    <Page

    ... //default code

    xmlns:bm="using:Bing.Maps">

    <Grid>

    <bm:Map Name="Maps" Height="600" Width="1000" MapType="Road" ShowNavigationBar="False" ShowTraffic="False"
                                ShowBreadcrumb="False" ShowBuildings="False" ShowScaleBar="False" HomeRegion="US"
                    Credentials="{Binding MapKey}" ZoomLevel="16"></bm:Map>

    </Grid>

    The application platform target is set as x86, and Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Package is referenced.

    Any help/pointers to resolve the issue??

  • You wouldn't happen to be using the new Windows 8.1 preview version of the Bing Maps control by chance? If so that version will only work on Windows 8.1 and not Windows 8.

    This is the current SDK for Windows 8: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/ebc98390-5320-4088-a2b5-8f276e4530f9

    This is the Windows 8.1 version: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/2010fe17-56fc-42ca-b5c0-d2448a9fe460

  • Yes, I have the SDK for Windows 8 (version: 1.113.0601.1). Initially it was updated via VS (Extension and updates).  I tried to uninstall and reinstall the SDK, but didn't help.

    If there is any way to collect logs, please let me know. I can collect and send in.

  • Turn on unmanaged debugging and run it under the debugger. It should break at the point of failure. Save a dump using the Debug menu option and share it out.

  • My WinRT (C#/XAML) app is also crashing with the new Maps SDK, also confirmed to be the correct Windows 8 SDK.

    The dump can be found here: http://sdrv.ms/1bR6QiO

    Many thanks.

  • Is it possible to download the previous version of the SDK? I really wanted to submit my app with support for maps but this just isn't possible with the current version of the SDK.

    Thanks.

  • The issue seems to be caused by ShowBuildings property.  We will investigate this issue but for workaround, can you remove the property from xaml and see everything else works?

    Yes, I can confirm that removing the ShowBuildings property stops the control from killing my app.

    Out of interest, is there anything I can do within my app to catch the sort of exceptions this control is raising so that my app *doesn't* die?
