Roaming Settings/Files Questions

    Question

  • I'm trying to get handle on how Roaming settings and files behave. Right now my plan is to write out my settings to a roaming file instead of using the roaming settings API since that will make them portable across app major version changes. I'm trying to figure out if there will be any problems with this approach. Note that in addition to my settings file, I also store a handful of small user-supplied files in the roaming folder (the total size of all the files will typically be less than 10KB). Also note that none of this is time critical information and the settings file will only be written when the app is suspended.

    Some questions:

    1. Are roaming files synced as often as roaming settings? Is there any typical time delay between writing a Roaming file on one device and when it appears on other devices? Obviously, numerous factors come into play but is there a target delay time?

    2. Does my app get a DataChanged notification when a roaming file changes or is deleted?

    3. Is there anything "wrong" with using Roaming files instead of the Settings API?

    Thanks
