Difference between LOCK and Disable account RRS feed

    Please let me know the difference between LOCK and DISABE account.

  • I think, LOCKED is more of related with the Domain level. Disable at SQL Server level.

    When a windows id is locked, you can check using active directory groups in the console dsa.msc. You can see the locking state by right clicking on the account id ->Properties->Account tab.

    See ALTER LOGIN (Transact-SQL); you can manually disable an account, but you can't "lock" it, only "unlock" it, if e.g. the password has expired and therefore the login is locked.
