Upgrade SQL Server 6.5 to SQL 2012 RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I'd like to to know the steps involved in conversion of SQL Server 6.5 to SQL Server 2012. Please suggest the version of Upgrade advisor that can be run on the SQL Server 6.5

  • Realistically your best option is to install a new instance of SQL Server 2012 and migrate to the new instance. The upgrade path from a product that ended mainstream Microsoft support 10+ years ago would involve far more work than setting up a new instance and migrating.

    The upgrade path from 6.5 would require an upgrade to SQL Server 2000, then to 2008 R2, then finally to 2012, due to the compatibility level of the engine and the support matrix for each version.
