Prompt for Creds w/ UAC Set to Deny? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm working in an enterprise environment where 95% of our users are "limited" users.  Therefore, we set the ConsentPromptBehaviorUser to "deny".

Is there any way to force an application or shortcut to prompt for admin creds when you have the UAC set to deny?  Either via a config setting, a command line parameter, or programmatically?

    Thanks!

That would be one option, unfortunately I don't believe any of the options there helps.

With UAC set to deny, here are the outcomes from the various manifest options:

    asInvoker - runs as user
    highestAvailable - runas as user
requireAdministrator - displays the "administrator has denied access" message

What I would need would be some sort of "promptForAdmin" option that would override the UAC setting.  Since that doesn't exist, I don't think this is a viable option.

Is there anyway to invoke the Consent.exe functionality?

  • Hi again:

Your question: Is there anyway to invoke the Consent.exe functionality?

Answer: As far as I know this there answer will be NO!

Check out my guide to UAC for more information:
UAC: All Information Developers need about the User Account Control (UAC).

    I hope this helps...

    Have a nice day...
