having multiple users for one access. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We created an access file to be used by multiple people at the same time. Sometimes we can open file with no problem. Most of the time it says can not be opened because file already in use. We created it to be open on multiple computers by multiple people so why is it not working.

  • The minute you have mutiple users on an Access database you need to split the database and then provide each user with their own copy of the Front-End.  You can learn more by reading:

  • Using the Access the way you describe it is like having a single coat for all the people ...OK its a bit larger than the usual so normally 2-3 users might be OK but this is not the case...the thing is that you want everyone to have a coat on their own.

So split the Access to FE and BE.

The BE will hold only data..nothing else...only tables that will hold the "common" data

Everything else is moved to FE and each user has a copy of it locally on their hard drive.
