Is there anything like MSDASC.DataLinks.PromptNew in OleDbConnection? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there anything like MSDASC.DataLinks.PromptNew in OleDbConnection?

    In VB.NET x86 with COM I can use MSDASC and ADODB to build a connection string by using MSDASC.DataLinks.PromptNew as follows:

    Dim dlg As New MSDASC.DataLinks()
    Dim adoConn As ADODB.Connection = dlg.PromptNew
    Dim newConnectionString As String = adoConn.ConnectionString

    I can then use this string to open OleDbConnection connections:

    Dim oleConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection(newConnectionString)

    This was a convenient way of building connection strings.

    In .NET x64, this isn't available. Are there any alternatives?

    I've had to remove the references to ADODB and MSDASC because they don't allow me to build both x64 and x86 versions so my app now is missing this feature.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
