Relation Duration x Work x Start Date x End Date in MS Project 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well, i'm beginner in MS Project (specifically in MS Project 2007) and a i got the following problem:

1 - I have all tasks maped in "Grantt Charts".
2 - My workday is 14 hours per week (monday to monday, without holidays).
3 - The work schedule is from 21:00PM to 23:00PM, so calculating this we have:
    (2h per day) X (7 days in a week) = 14h per week.

The big problem is: When i put 7 days in column durating (in any task) the work shows 14h (this is correct) but the start date and end date just count 1, my ideia is that for MS PROJECT 1 day have 8h of work (and not 2h as i wanna), so 14h is like 1,75 days, but should be exact 7 days because my project is like that, only 2h per day and not 8h per day as MS PROJECT think.

  • Lanhellas,

You are going to need to create a Custom Calendar.  By doing this, you tell Project which hours and which days are working time.

Click on Change Working Time and follow the Create New Calendar dialogue.

  • I already create a new calender called "14h per week" configuring the default hours from monday to monday as 21:00PM (start) and 23:00PM (end), but the problem continue.

  • You will need to open the Project Information dialogue and assign this custom calendar as your Project Calendar.

  • I already do it also. See bellow the print-screen of my configuration step-by-step.

    1 - My custom calendar:

    2 - Project Information:

3 - Wrong date in 'Gantt Chart':

  • Hi,

The 2 hrs/day is only a conversion factor (dasy to hours)

Work will be scheduled using the WORKING TIME. Go to Change Working time (Tools, Change Working time), click work weeks, then details, and set the exact worig hours for each working day.

  • Hi,

I looked at your screenshots and there must be one of two explanations:

Is the working time for ALL working days only 2 hours?

More likely, do the resource(s) on the task also have this calendar? Do not forget, a project calendar is only the default and once there is a resource on a task, its calendar starts governing the working time and the project calendar doesn't count any more.
