Can VS2013 bring up SQL Server 2008r2

    Question

  • I have VS2013, however, our databases are on SQL Server 2008r2. When trying to use the SQL tools (like query) within VS2013 it brings up SQL Server 2014. Is there anyway to switch it to bring up 2008r2 instead?

If you can't are there any compatibility issues with coding C# WebForm and MVC code that that communicates with SQL 2008r2?  There doesn't seem to be an incompatibility at the coding level, but I'm not 100% sure.

    Thanks.

  • Hi MV-Progr,

I have taken a look at the link shared by Denis.

And generally you can use the SQL Server 2014 which brings by VS2013 directly.

If you face the compatibility issues when using SQL Server 2014 for the specified projects. Please share the detailed information of the issue here.

  • So when I bring up SQL query in VS2013 it's part of SSIS and thus not much I can do.

I'm assuming any coding where I connect to SQL 2008r2 is o.k. since this is on the .NET platform.

Thanks for the link it was useful.
