Fullscreen startup delay RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi, sorry if i'm not doing a good enough search, but i don't see an existing thread.  though i suck at searching apparently... :)

    when i start my app up in fullscreen, it takes a good 3-4 seconds before any rendering actually occurs. i'm doing a fade-in for my startup screen.  it works great in windowed mode, but in fullscreen, the display is blank for 3 seconds and only then do i get my startup screen (post fade-in).  oh and the startup music begins immediately, so i know the fade-in is happening, it's just not being drawn.

    i'd think the WindowsGame_Starting event would trigger after the display is all set for a good rendering.  is this just my card or is there some way i can know when to start my fade-in process?

    peace,
    dave

  • Hey Dave,

    sometimes it did occur to me that the gaphicsdevice needs a few moments to switch  to fullscreen.
    If  you have something  like

                if (!graphics.EnsureDevice())
                    return;

    in your Render() check out if your code gets past these lines.
    If it doesn't there's the point to synchronize with sound.

    If this doesn't help, could you be a bit more specific?

    cheers
