Adding a action add-in to SCVMM 2012 , not able to see ribbon button on AllHomeTab RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed Action Add-in successfully.

    After installation , I am not able to see any ribbon button for newly added add-in

    Below is sample manifest file used for add-in

    <ConsoleAddIn
      xmlns="urn:VMM-AddIns-v1"
      Name="VM Checkpoint Add-in"
      Version="1.0.0.0"
      Author="Microsoft Corp"
      Description="An example add-in that can checkpoint selected virtual machines."
      FolderName="VMCheckpointAddIn">
      <ActionAddIn
        Name="VM Checkpoint Non-contextual"
        Contexts="AllHomeTabs"
        AssemblyName="VMCheckpointAddIn"
        ActionType="Code"
        ShowInContextMenu="True">
        <ButtonLabel>
          Checkpoint Virtual Machines
        </ButtonLabel>
      </ActionAddIn>

    Machine Configuration

    SCVMM: SCVMM SP1 2012

    OS: Windows Server 2012 Data Center (64-bit)

    Add-in Details

    Action Add-in (64 bit)

    Does any buddy have any idea why this is happening ???

  • I'm trying to do the same thing and having the same problem. I just can't get even the simplest add-in to load.

    I note that when I close the SCVMM console and restart it, I get 2 identical errors claiming that SCVMM was unable to load the assembly referenced in the add-in manifest (e.g. VMCheckpointAddin in the above code). I suspect that 1 of these errors was actually triggered when the add-in was initially loaded, with the 2nd on restarting SCVMM.

    Someone in the SCVMM team must know how to write a functioning add-in.
