Multiple login prompts for remote users RRS feed

  • Question

  • I set up TFS in a domain and added remote users to it so they can use those credentials remotely. However, these users are not part of the domain and are being prompted for credentials when they access the portal, which is OK... however, they are being prompted TWICE before they are finally authenticated.

The question is, why... and can it be prevented short of adding their laptops to our domain (which we do not want to do).

  • Hi,

I'm not 100% sure, but potentially they are getting prompted for credentials twice by:

    1. The sharepoint project portal site
    2. The "remaining work" reporting services webpart on the homepage of the project portal.

One way to avoid being prompted for credentials is to store them.  To store the credentials:

    • Navigate to the project portal
    • Double-click the "Internet" zone icon at the bottom-right of IE (Or go to Tools | Internet Options | Security)
    • Add the server's url to the Intranet zone
    • Close Internet Explorer
    • Open Internet explorer
    • Enter credentials when prompted and choose "[X] Remember my password"

You can also achieve this by going to Control Panel | User Accounts | Manage my network passwords

    Hope this helps.
