SMTP Connector fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am adding SMTP Connector to the simple test logic app (just recurrence) and getting the following error:

        "headers": {
            "pragma": "no-cache,no-cache",
            "x-Content-Type-Options": "nosniff",
            "x-ms-proxy-outgoing-newurl": "https://smtpconnectorXXXXXXXXXXXXX.azurewebsites.net/Smtp/SendEmail",
            "cache-Control": "no-cache",
            "date": "Tue, 05 Jan 2016 22:10:13 GMT",
            "set-Cookie": "ARRAffinity=82a08b40a71917d3cb918b46a8cfbd2d7a04092dfcd9b4239677dde7bf413293;Path=/;Domain=default-web-westusXXXXXXXXXXXX.azurewebsites.net",
            "server": "Microsoft-IIS/8.0",
            "x-AspNet-Version": "4.0.30319",
            "x-Powered-By": "ASP.NET"
        "body": {
            "status": 400,
            "source": "smtpconnectorXXXXXX.azurewebsites.net",
            "message": "Validation Failed. Please refer the errors property for more details"

    Tried with SendGrid with the user/pass used in my other (non Logic App) setup. Tried with gmail (Google Apps for Work) with the same result.

    1. Where can I get data for "errors property" mentioned in the message?

    2. What are other way to troubleshoot?

    3. What may be the issue?

  • Yes there are some known issues with how SendGrid and Gmail operate their SMTP protocols and how the SMTP Connector currently function.  The challenge with SendGrid seems to be in how authentication is exchanged, whereas Gmail doesn't trust the IP the mail is coming from or the SMTP server to be "legit" so blocks with anti-spam from my experience.

    My recommendation would be to use the open source SendGrid connector on the Logic Apps Github (http://github.com/logicappsio ) which will deploy automatically into your sub and allow you to send mail - or even better, just use the SendGrid REST API and the HTTP action to send a mail message

    Let me know if either of those will work for you.
