Unable to create a pool from custom images

Question

I'm trying to create a node pool from a custom image as outlined in the documentation

In the azure portal, however, I do not see an option for custom images. I only see an option for Custom Image - Shared Image Gallery

Is creating pools from custom images (outside of a shared image gallery) still supported?

Hello Chip Samson,

From the latest version of Batch API, the virtualMachineImageId property of ImageReference can now only refer to a Shared Image Gallery image. So with the latest api verison the option to use stand alone custom images is unavailable. 

However, you have to use an older API i.e. you can create custom image pools using stand alone custom images using an older batch API version.
