How to make Installation Setup in vfp RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

I have developed software in Visual Foxpro 9 and want to create installation package as Setup which should register all supporting files (ocx & dll) also. What should be the right way to do this.

    Regards

  • I agree with tom,

VFP7-9 come with a limited edition (express edition) of installshield express, you may install it from your VFP CD, if you didn't already. There is a walkthrough explaining how to use it in the VFP help, too.

As you can see from the foxpro wiki inno setup is a tool well known and liked by the community, this not only has the reason it's free...

Just for sake of completeness the Install shield express (ISE) solution isn't too bad, one major downside is the installation process itself has a slow start, the progress bar first doesn't move for a few seconds since Vista. No idea what's going on, but this already has led some impatientusers to quit the setup, before it began. You don't easily find the way to register any OCX or DLL with it, though it is possible, it's somewhat hidden in the context menu of the target computer directory/files you set up in one step, when you right click on the blue icons ISE displays for the files on the target system you get options to let the setup do COM server registrations. And on the positive side ISE can use the nice merge modules (msm files) for VFP and C++ runtime, which are also updated and kept up to date even with the latest hotfixes of VFP9.

    Bye, Olaf.
