How many instances we can maintain in active/passive? RRS feed

  • Dear Sir,

    I am in the learning stage of cluster.I am having some doubts which i mentioned below.

    How many instances we can maintain in active/passive?

    How to install second instance in active/passive cluster.That instance also should fail over to node 2.

  • Instances in AP cluster depends on sql server version/edition  ur using

    sql server 2005 Enterprise supports 8 node

    SQL server 2008/2008 R2 enterprise supports max of 16 nodes

    SQL server standard 2005/2008/2008R2 supports only two nodes

    In sql server 2005/2000 second node cluster will be installed with installation running on forst node i mean installation on both node is done simultaneously

    for 2008/2008r2/2012 bove

    Add node to cluster feature is available to add node to cluster

  • Sorry i though ur asking for node..if so above is answer if instance as if sql server instance  you can have 50 instances, except for workgroup where 16 is supported. Unless on a cluster where 25 is supported:
