Server 2012 R2 Guests sporatic and frequent RPC Server connection issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Guests were previously on a server 2012 cluster. We migrated to a server 2012 R2 Cluster. The only issue in migration required use to edit the XML file of the servers to identify the new virtual switch associated with the new cluster.

What we have noticed on both of the servers is that RDC connections drop frequently. This impacts Backup (shadowprotect) and SQL application, occasionally RDP and file sharing. Best way to put it, it goes up and down. A snip of a PS1 (near bottom) command shows.

Now there is no local firewall involved on any of the servers involved. All on same subnet. Pings are 'fine', but there appears to be latency. We are confident it is not a DNS issue, and we modified the Guests so that they are not getting their time from the hosts but directly from the PDC.

There is no indication of services starting and stopping. We do have teaming established (native 2012 R2) - we have the 4 Nics for the VirtualTeam - and we had to go with Address hash.

Basically anything that could point us in a direction to try and resolve would be much appreciated. We are looking to migrate all production to this cluster as soon as we can. Thank you.

  • We made some progress by disabling VMQ settings on the virtual guests. One host, seems solid. The other, still has some issues, just simply not as frequently.
