What to do when the SQL Server 2014 back certificate expires? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have been using SQL Server 2014 native backup encryption for a year now, and the certificate expired 2 days ago.

My backup jobs have stopped working, the current certificate is unusable.

What shall I do in this situation? My concern is the previous backups, if I create a new certificate, will I be able to decrypt the old backups?

    Thanks.

  • I have just created a new certificate, and kept the old one in place. everything seems to be working fine now.
