TileLayer tiles reloading on map pan RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently noticed that tiles brought into a Bing Maps v7 map via the TileLayer class "reloaded" as I panned the map. You can see the behavior here: http://maps.nps.gov/support/examples/bing-tilestream.html.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior? I have been able to reproduce this behavior in Internet Explorer 7, 8, and 9 and Firefox and Chrome.

  • Yes, I noticed this as well, and I think it is a new bug introduced with the latest update.

I don't think it's panning the map per se that produces the problem - it's that whenever new tiles are requested and drawn for the base map layer, the tiles in custom tile layers are also redrawn (even those tiles that were already on the map).

One way of demonstrating this problem is to pan the map to such an extent that you request new tiles beyond the edge of the initial map view.

  • Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what is causing the behavior, but something is going on. This causes a few of our maps that use custom tilesets to work really poorly.
