Data Model remains in memory after closing excel file & fails on re-open. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am using powerpivot on a windows7 O/S with Office 365 Proplus Version 1808 (Build10730.20102 CTR) and have a fairly straight forward data model with a single data table and 5 linked masterdata tables. As front I only use cubevalue formulas.

As of a certain version of my file (not having changed the data model),  when closing only the file (not the excel session) and then re-opening it again I receive following error:

"An issue with the Data Model is preventing MS Excel from opening this workbook. Try restarting MS Excel."

Restarting Excel does the trick, but this is not a user friendly solution.

I do note that when closing the file, in the windows task manager a huge amount of memory keeps being allocated to the excel process, whereas for other file this is not the case.

The only answer I found so far for similar questions is to rebuild data model,  but I would like to understand what is the trigger for this issue and even better how to tackle it.

Thanks in advance for any helpful info

    Kr

    Wim
