Connecting to LDAP RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello, I have been trying to connect my NAS to Windows Server LDAP but it tells me that I am not authorized to connect.

Wait, i figured it out. This is probably pertinent to anyone connecting to LDAP...

If using a Microsoft AD server. Remember: INFORMATION ENTERED INTO THE LDAP CONNECTION IS CASE SENSITIVE. To get around this and make entering the information much easier, follow this suggestion:

Open ADSIEDIT.MSC "Default Naming Context" on the AD server. Then right click the CN or OU level you want to enter into the LDAP connection, then select PROPERTIES from the drop down list, look for "distinguishedName". Double click on "distinguishedName" and copy the value from there. The entries are case sensitive and position sensitive. Doing this will give you the exact case and text for the field.  I.E. CN=Users,DC=Contoso,DC=local
