When to use virtual machines for Windows Servers, and when to use traditional Server Setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Let's say I have seven Windows Server 2012 R2 "machines" needed. Domain controllers, Exchange Servers, etc.

In your opinion, is it better to have each server be it's own physical box (i.e we have 7 sets of server hardware), or should we have two physical boxes running Hyper V, and half the servers are set as VMs on one box, while the other half of the servers are set as VMs on the other box.

I've talked to two people about this, and one supports the traditional hardware (1 machine per box), and the other says Hyper V is a better setup.

Which would you choose, and why?
